An Illinois-based manufacturer and distributor of health care supplies has decided to locate a large distribution center in southern Dallas County.

Medline Industries has selected a site in the Sunridge Business Park on Interstate 45 in Wilmer. The company plans an 800,000-square-foot warehouse. Medline currently has a smaller operation off Hampton Road south of Interstate 20 in Dallas.

“We have about 40 distribution locations throughout the U.S.,” said Medline’s Vivika Panagiotakakos. “They are strategically located to get our products to our customers.”

Medline purchased 45 acres on the east side of I-45 for the new warehouse, said developer Mike Rader of Prime 45 Development. Rader and a group of partners have been building the Sunridge project since 2005.

Sunridge Business Park is planned to have more than 8 million square feet of industrial space. Colliers International markets property in the project.

“Medline is a great company and a good addition to the park,” Rader said. The family-owned company bills itself as the largest privately held manufacturer and distributor of health care supplies in the United States. Its customers include hospitals and nursing homes.  Headquartered in Mundelein, Ill., the company has been in business since 1910. Medline has more than 12,000 employees with operations in more than 25 countries.

“We are excited to be chosen by Medline,” said Wilmer City Administrator William McDonald. “It represents continued growth in this community.”

The warehouse is to be near large industrial buildings that house operations for Ace Hardware and Uniliver. Other big industrial complexes in the same area house facilities of Georgia Pacific, Procter & Gamble, Whirlpool and other major companies.
